BlackBerry 8820 merupakan salah satu produk terbaru dari RIM, yang mampu sediakan akses suara dan data nirkabel melalui jaringan seluler dan WiFi (802.11a/b/g, EDGE). Dengan built-in GPS, QWERTY keyboard, sistem navigasi trackball, dan voice serta data fungsionalitas, Blackberry 8820 juga merupakan smartphone tertipis yang pernah dibuat oleh RIM.

Feature menarik lainnya dari 8820 adalah UMA, yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk berpindah antara network selular dan network Wi-Fi tanpa harus memutuskan panggilan atau koneksi. Tersedia juga slot microSD / SDHC yang bisa mendukung kapasitas hingga 32GB untuk fasilitas penyimpanan.
